James Greenwood

James Greenwood is currently a Captain with the Boise Fire Department, assigned to Engine 5 on B Shift, covering the Downtown area of Boise, ID. He is currently a member of the Department’s Technical Rescue Team, Engine Specifications Committee, High Rise Committee, and is qualified to work out of classification as a Battalion Chief. James is an adjunct Instructor at BFD’s Recruit Academy, contributing to the Fire Behavior, Building Construction, Static Bed Hose Stretches, and High Rise Tactics portions of the Academy.

Previous to the Boise Fire Department, James worked as a structural firefighter for the Santa Fe Fire Department in Santa Fe, New Mexico and as a Volunteer Firefighter/EMT for the Moscow Fire Department in Moscow, ID. Prior to his structural career, James had a lengthy wildland firefighting career started in 1998 with time spent on a type VI engine for the US Forest Service on the Roosevelt National Forest in Colorado, a member on the Alpine Interagency Hotshot Crew based out of Rocky Mountain National Park in Colorado, and as a Smokejumper for the US Forest Service out of the Nez Perce National Forest in Idaho and for the Bureau of Land Management based out of Boise, Idaho.

James is an organizer of the Boise Firefighter’s Symposium, a regional training conference supported by Fire Nuggets, Inc., a nationwide non-profit firefighter training organization in which James also serves as a Board Member on its Executive Board.

James holds a Juris Doctor Degree from the University of Idaho College of Law and is an inactive member of the State Bar of Nevada. He holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree with a major in History and minor in Spanish from Colorado State University. James has also served as Secretary of IAFF Local #2059 Santa Fe Firefighters, on the Grievance Committee for IAFF Local #149 Boise Firefighters, and for a term as an Executive Board Member for the Professional Firefighters of Idaho.
