Stephen Tyler

Stephen Tyler is a Captain on a fire engine in Eagle, Idaho. Stephen started his career in 2013 after a stint volunteering.  Stephen spent almost two years as a Training Captain, he was a driver for a short period of time and has been a captain since early 2021.

Stephen would say that he enjoys pulling lines, pulling locks, and pulling barbells. Others would add that he is one of the best all-around firefighters you could find out there.  He not only knows the job of a firefighter, driver, and captain, but he is often found educating the Battalion Chiefs on strategies and tactics.  You could find him flawlessly executing a shitty hot and smokey hallway push, vertically venting a flat roof with the truck company, or running a technical extrication on the Heavy Rescue.  Stephen is one of the most dedicated firemen you can find.  His relentless pursuit in himself and others is unmatched.  Everyday Stephen is not only training himself but his crew and shift to the highest of standards.  Regardless of the day, weather, or crew, you can find him spritzing and squirting water along with doing other firefighting drills.

Stephen was the host the Refined by Fire Podcast (RIP), which is not only one of the most listened to firefighting podcasts but is leading in requests to bring it back.  Although Stephen is very slim and fit, he is the proud owner of a food truck and for many years was a certified carnie at the fair.  He aided in the diabetes crisis in America with loaded fries and finger steaks.  He also is a licensed arborist with the National Arborer’s Society of Plant and Bush Lovers.  He loves phone calls and texts of why your trees, bushes, and lawn are dying and is always willing to give advice and help you with spring and fall yard cleanup projects.  Stephen is most well known for his use of big words to remind everybody he is the smartest in the room.  The words are most often used in disagreement to derail the opposer, are always foreign to the audience thus not knowing what he is trying to say, and always so big and nobody can re-pronounce it or spell it to look up its meaning.

Although Stephen is typically a kind person, occasionally, Steve comes out… the only advice is to run and run fast and don’t stop.
